This
is a small, Charlotte-based chain of about a dozen locations featuring
bold southwest flavors incorporated with aged steaks, chicken, and
pizza. The 7,000-square-foot restaurant features the ambiance of a
Colorado ski lodge with an open-air kitchen, large exposed high wooden
beams and an expansive fireplace in the bar area.

My girlfriend took me here for my birthday, along with both our children (we have one each). Everything we had was great -- the wine, the atmosphere, and even the children behaved. I ordered the Filet mignon, medium rare, with a small lobster tail on the side. What a wonderful filet! Very likely the best I've had this year. I'll be back! (August 2007)
The decor is nice, very mountain-lodgish. Our service was good. All I had was a cheeseburger and fries. But, it was very tasty burger, cooked exactly how I asked.
The rest of the menu looked good. The prices were reasonable for the steaks. Id go back just to try the steaks. Wish it were closer to downtown though. There were a few seafood items like crusted trout. And, they have gluten free menu for those with celiac sprue. BTW, others in town with gluten free menus are bonefish grill, outback steakhouse, and carrabas.
Try the sesame encrusted salmon. Excellent, with a very unusual and delicious spinach side. Caesar salad is very good and the prime rib is quite delicious. Not a cheap restaurant, but worth the price.
I love Firebirds. The service is good and the food is excellent. They have an excellent wine and martini list. It is pricey--go for lunch or go for the homemade desserts.
