Chef/partner Nicola Bacchi is a native of Milan, Italy, and is known in this area for opening White Villa restaurant in Sylacauga, then was with Amore Ristorante Italiano.

I had heard good and bad things about the Fish House Grill. So thought I would see for myself. I had eaten at the White Villa in Sylacauga, which I enjoyed, so I had high hope. They were soon shattered at the Fish House. My husband and I ordered the fried crab claws as a appetizer. They were nice big claws that could have been good without the excessive cornmeal breading. I was able to crumble most the cornmeal off and eat what was left. It was served with ketchup, called cocktail sauce. I ask if they had any combo that was not fried, one was listed which was list as all fried. The waitress was very accommodating said she would check. She advised that I could order not fried. I ask that nothing be fried. We received a house salad that they must make way in advance as the lettuce was frozen. The salad consists of the frozen lettuce and a grape tomato. I had the watered down ranch dressing. I was looking forward to my meal, as my appetizer and salad were both a disappointment. I received a platter with fried oysters; I really could not tell how many as it was just a blob of fried batter. A piece of fish floating in butter/grease, 4 shrimp that were not bad, but no taste, most likely frozen and just thawed out. My potato was over cooked to the point it was brown throughout. My husband had flounder, which was a very small piece, his potato and salad was the same as mine. Our meal was a total disappointment and we will not be going back. The fact that they do not serve alcohol was also a disappointment.

A group of seven of us went to the fish house grill last week and loved it! We were sat down immediately and our waitress was very attentive. All of us ordered different meals and stuffed our faces with the great hush puppies and sweet bread. They were a little too good! The salad came, which portion wise seemed on the smaller side, but my blue cheese dressing was great, the waitress said it is homemade. The meal arrived and all our dishes were right with only one side being wrong, of course it looked better that what was ordered so we kept it. My tilapia was great and the sauce was unusual but I liked it. My Macaroni and cheese was wonderful. Looked and tasted like it was from scratch so I was in heaven. The sweet potatoes casserole was good also. The only person had a problem was with the corn on the cob. Knowing that corn is not in season, I’m sure that was the issue. Lastly we ordered desert to try. I never tasted the bread pudding (it didn’t make it to my end) but the chocolate cake desert was HEAVEN. Lots of chocolate with a pudding/cake like consistency. I would highly recommend to anyone in the area! Worth the drive from Hoover for a good family style dinner.

The shrimp was okay, the salad dressing and hush puppies were bland. We have not been back.
