There are not a lot of particularly good seafood places in Birmingham. I can barely remember the last time I had a really good seafood dish at Hot&Hot. Ocean pleases me everytime in terms of the service, selection, presentation, and taste. It is not cheap, but I leave feeling as though I got what I paid for.

They have a steak that is pretty good too.

Ocean is one of those places that is always a nice surprise to find in Birmingham. Its atmosphere is trendy and tasteful, the food is superb, and the wait staff is extremely attentive. If I have out of town guests or want to celebrate a special occasion it's my first choice. It's a consistent star performer.

Ate again recently at ocean, so I thought I would leave a more detailed review. We first started with some appetizers including some sushi which was the James Brown Soul roll which includes enough pieces for 2-3 people and small bowl of soy sauce. An excellent sushi roll. Also had some of the small barbecued lobster tails which are served with lemon wedges. These were incredible, with just the right amount of seasoning and grill flavor to them.

My salad was reliably delicious with mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, alabama goat cheese, and pecans served with a slightly sweet vinaigrette.

To top it off was the seared halibut which I think is currently in season. It was cooked perfectly such that is was moist without being undercooked, and slightly flaky. It was served with grape tomatoes and fingerling potatoes and a very light marniade/sauce was there, but it was barely noticeable and complemented the flavor of the fish nicely.

Our service was top notch and my wine and water glasses stayed full. We all had a great time.

I've only ever had 1 mediocre experience at this place out of many many dining occasions. I highly recommend Ocean.
