Jubilee Joe's

2341 Hwy. 150, Suite 119, Hoover (north of I-459, near intersection with Shades Crest Rd.)

City Scene 2007 review found the food inexpensive and good but the atmosphere chaotic. They do crawfish "better than anybody else." Soups were "terrific," fried oysters "the best ever." Mashed potato side was "the only miss of the evening." But it took forever to get seated; "the seafood was fried, boiled, grilled or blackened, but we were steamed." Almost nothing came out together.

They have a great seafood dish; I'm not sure what it is called...but it rocks. The service is good and the owner is always their and ready to serve you in a pinch. I highly recomend Jubilee Joe's & you should definitely go to check this place out!

Since the B'ham News 2007 review, the service side has been overhauled and we haven't had a complaint since. We also recently received Apalachicola oysters in the half shell, so come back 'MH' and enjoy!

We often eat a Jubilee Joe's. The food is very good, especially the gumbo. The best Gulf Style Seafood restaurant in Birmingham, IMO. My only real complaint would be that the seating is uncomfortable and it is very loud there when the restaurant is crowded.

I eat at Jubilee Joe's alot!! The food is awesome, service is great and I highly recommend it. They have raw and charbroiled oysters now. I have been going there for years and it was a bit disorganized at first, and now it is a complete change of atmosphere and great service on staff. But cumon folks, the kid was only 22 or 23 years old when he started the business. He has made it 4 years and made a great change to the restaurant to make it worth coming back over and over. Worth the drive and the wait if they have one..

I eat here often when crawfish are in season. Their crawfish are outstanding, and the addition of raw oysters has really completed the menu. I've had their sandwiches and pasta - which are both very good - but mostly I go for the craws. The place is small, but any wait for a table is well rewarded. The current wait staff are extremely courteous and eager to please. I love the joint....

Jubilee Joe's worst restaurant experience ever...

After church yesterday we decided to try a new place we had heard of called Jubilee Joe’s. We had read some good reviews and were looking forward to finding a good place for all-you-can-eat crawfish. So we walk in with excited anticipation and meet a friend who was also excited about finding a good place for good crawfish. We were in for a huge surprise and disappointment.

Before spending $22 on the meals we asked to sample the crawfish and they brought out 3 which were pretty good. So we place our order and after waiting patiently for an hour I finally asked how much longer it would be before we could get the food. It was brought out with in 5 minutes of me asking. And that it is when the real fun begins.

Our guest’s crawfishalfredo was cold and the crawfish were small and chewy like they were frozen, and the dish was not seasoned. I ate two crawfish, one bite of potato, one bite of corn and my wife did the same, she may have eaten 3 crawfish. They tasted completely different from the sample ones. It didn’t taste like there was seasoning on any of it, and not good enough to eat. So I asked to talk with the manager.

A guy in nasty sweatpants, dirty t-shirt, ball cap, and dripping with sweat came out and asked very rudely what the problem was. Another reason to lose an appetite. He later said his name was Cash and he was the owner.

When I described to him what I have written above he goes nuts. He said he said no one has complained in four f***ing years. Yes, he screamed and cussed in front of my wife and guest, and his other patrons, including small children. He just couldn’t believe that we didn’t like it. I offered to pay for the drinks since we did consume them, but asked to not pay for the food since it was not worth eating.

He again, got furious and yelled and cursed in front of everyone, so we laid money on the table for the drinks and tried to leave. As we crossed the threshold Cash storms out after us and calls the police saying that we are running out on the tab. So now after waiting for an hour for food we are still starving but can’t leave because we have to wait on police.

While waiting, a very nice guy, claiming to be Cash’s brother came out to find out what was going on. Cash came out to join us, and when his brother requested to Cash that we be able to leave since we didn’t eat the food. He started yelling, cursing and screaming. Yes, this is the guy claiming he is the owner.

Hoover police showed up and we explained the story, and the law states if owner insist we have to pay for what we ordered. So, we did what we had to and paid the bill, but will never be back. I want to urge everyone who reads this, for the sake of your taste buds, wallet, time, and family, please do not go to Jubilee Joe’s, and warn your family and friends.

Its funny that I just read this comment about Jubilee Joes owner calling the police.. The owner there is extremely nice and Im sure if there was police called, it probably was the customer being out of place, because of the 5years of me eating there I would never expect the owner to act such a way. So Im sure it is some people way out in the country coming to the city and expecting it to be like it is way out in the woods. Sorry guys, but this is my entire neighborhood's favorite restaurant to go to. We love you Jubilee Joe's. Keep up the great work!!!

I think Jan. 2010 Jeremy Fields comments make some sense. there are lot of people try to get away with some discounts or eat free by making lame excuses, it may work at Corporate restaurants, but they should not try the same tactics in privately owned restaurants, since these guys try to make living and does their best to make customers happy. But there is always some one you can not make happy.

I ate there last night again. I had not been there for about a year due to the horrible service I got last time. It took us 1 hour and 50 minutes to get our meal finished. We got an appetizer and were eating it when a couple came in and sat beside us. We had already been there about 15 minutes. Well our waiter sat down with the couple and started talking. After a while he went and got their meals. I asked about our meals. He said he would go check. About 10 minutes later he came out and filled our neighbors drinks. Not a word to us. And we were drinking sweet tea, no alcohol. Another 15 minutes went by. I finally got his attention again and he checked and came back and said our order had not got in. He would get in in. Quite a while after our neighbors had already ate and left and more people were beside us eating our meals came. And I had to ask to get my bill. He never apologized. We stayed calm and polite. Last night we were in the area and said we would try it again. Meal was good, service was good. But today I was on the internet looking at our banking account and I noticed we had gotten charged twice. I called over there and got the rudest person on the line. He told me they were busy and he didn't have time to deal with me. If I didn't like it call the owner. The bad service and getting charged twice wasn't near as bad as how rude he was. Unbelievable.

No way Kash would yell and cuss out a customer. Jubilee Joe's is great. Great food. Great atmosphere. Been going for 4 years now. Kash is more than a restuarnt owner, he is a family friend.

Ate at Jubilee Joe's last night. Very family friendly environment. Waiter was very attentive to us as well as my two boys. They had a great time. Food was great as was everything else. We will be back again.
