New to the Birmingham dining scene, Los Arcos Mexican Grill on Rocky Ridge Road serves what may be the best authentic Mexican food around. When was the last time you ordered a Mexican combo plate that didn?t arrive looking like one giant sloppy mess? At Los Arcos each item is beautifully presented with discernable flavors and aromas. Among my favorites are their tamales - light with a fresh corn taste and richly seasoned pork. I especially appreciate the high quality of their beef and chicken, and I love the fact that you have your choice of either with most items on their combo plates. They also offer an extensive menu of both traditional and original dishes ? my husband loved the spicy sauce on their green chile chicken enchilada platter. My daughter loves their nacho plates and vegetarian offerings. Of course, the chips are served hot, thin, and crisp, the salsa bursts with tomatoes and cilantro, and the margaritas have a fresh limey flavor despite their suspiciously too-green color. The two dining rooms are cozy and intimate with lots of comfortable booths, wood furniture, and bright colors. The servers are friendly and prompt. All-in-all, Los Arcos stands out in a very competitive field. Located across Rocky Ridge from Leonardo?s Italian Restaurant, in a strip shopping center, Los Arcos is difficult to see from the road. Venture a bit from the beaten path and you will be richly rewarded!
