Recommended by a reader who's a former Birmingham resident now living in Arkansas, who makes a point to visit George's when he's back in the area. A local reader raves about the Beef Shawerma, the hommos and the tabouli. However, comments indicate the food is better than the service.

A friend and I had lunch at George's for the first time last month. While the food was delicious, the service made us feel so unwelcome that the only way we'd ever patronize this place is take-out. The hummous is the best I've ever had, better than Nabeel's, JouJou's, and the many other local Middle Eastern restaurants. My friend enjoyed her appetizer sampler--cucumber salad instead of tabouli--but was dismayed when the server told her that no substitutions could be made--not even when my friend offered to pay extra! No drink refills were offered. In fact, no one checked back except to leave the bill.

Ah, George's. Good food. Very, very good food. The falafel is some of the best I have ever had and the kibi reminds you of what a shame it is to drown the pine nut in pesto. The hummus exhibits a perfect texture and the pita chips, simple as they are, seem decadent (just right oily!). And the hookahs -- so many hookahs, everywhere hookahs. And the television. Lebanese news, Lebanese music videos. So wonderful, so warm. But who are those people? Are they the owners or the security detail?...From me to you, George: reach into that waycool hat of yours and pull out some customer service.

Pretty good food. I don't remember the service being great or horrible.

My boyfriend and I love this place. Not only is the food delicious and fresh each time we visit, but both owners, George and Yvette, are the most friendly. Each time we visit, they ensure we feel welcome each time we visit, desite the fact that we're a gay couple. Customer service has always surpassed our expectations and everyone's always warm and friendly. We'll keep visiting George's, for the food and the rare sense of someone appreciating our business.
