Maki Fresh

2800 Cahaba Village Plaza, Suite 145 (Mountain Brook, off Hwy. 280 near Whole Foods)
Haven't tried it yet, but John Cassimus recently stepped down as head of Zoe's to focus on his Asian restaurants -- the excellent Jinsei in Homewood and this new casual-fast sush and Japanese concept. At Maki Fresh, customers can grab prepared sushi to go or choose ingredients from a line up of rice, sashimi, tofu, chicken, beef, fish, salads and rice bowls. Here's a couple of helpful links:

I have been to Maki Fresh and the food is amazing! Great priced sushi, and the staff is so friendly and fast! It is much better quality than grocery store sushi and at a great price compared to fine dining. Everything in their to-go cooler was $5! Can't beat that. The cool interior with a modern Japanese theme is perfect for hanging out with friends. They are open late, too! (9pm on weeknights, 10pm on weekends)

This is a healthy alternative to fast food. The salads and bowls run around $8-9.

I have eaten here several times (after shopping @ Whole Foods)...the Spicy Tuna roll is my favorite, my wife likes the Cowboy and they'll substitute soy paper for the nori if you request it. Can't beat the price.

Its ok. Portions could be slightly bigger, feels like a rip off. Tastes fresh and should be healthy. Good Japanese Style food, not completely authentic.

Dude I have to say I'm so glad to find your blog, even though I did it by a fluke. The information posted here is interesting and entertaining. In short, a really nice blog.
