Sitar Indian Cuisine

729 20th St. South (Southside)
Lunch and dinner, seven days a week, in the space formerly occupied by Tracy's Cafeteria. Nothing fancy, but local foodies say the food is good. A small family-owned chain with restaurants in Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky. Vegetarian options. Birmingham News food writer Deeana Crider writes about her visit here. Chowhounds chime in here.

I recently enjoyed the lunch buffet at this restaurant. The food was very good with a surprisingly large variety offered. Usually buffet food is substandard, but this was actually very well prepared. I arrived about 11:45 AM with the buffet starting at 11 AM. The food was not as hot as I would have liked, but I do realize it is difficult to maintain a high temperature on a buffet. Also, I like really spicy food and this was milder than most, but still quite good. I will return again in the near future a little bit closer to 11 AM. $7 is a very good value, and if you like Indian food this is definitely something you should try if you have not already!

I agree, the buffet is good, it is worth the price just to sit down and eat all the nan you want. The food is hot, well spiced and a great relish table with all the extras. I highly recommend SITAR for lunch. Dinner is a bit pricey but it is worth the hunt for a parking spot.
