Spiced Pear Tea Room

1708 29th Court South, Homewood
Girly place offers light lunch in four cozy dining rooms, more than 100 imported loose-leaf teas. High tea -- actually a dinner meal -- served in early evenings by reservation only. An August 2009 City Scene review noted that this is definitely "girly-girl" dining, and gave high marks for pimento cheese, mushroom quiche, chicken salad, and desserts.

The Red Cat

2901 2nd Ave S.
Suite 120
Birmingham, AL  35233
(205) 454-1391
(Formerly O'Kafes) Co-owners Kirk Summers and Erin Isbell have been selling their locally roasted coffee online and through local venues like V. Richard's and at a popular booth at the Pepper Place Saturday Market. The Birmingham News (“City Scene,” April 2007) named their coffee “one of the 12 things-to-do in Birmingham.” Now they have a retail coffee shop/cafe as well, in the Martin Biscuit Building of the Pepper Place complex, which has also become a cozy venue for live music. Their "signature lattes" are all named for cat breeds, such as The Burmese, with espresso, vanilla and coconut syrups and steamed milk, topped with whipped cream and toasted coconut. For food, you'll find paninis, deli sandwiches, wraps, Greek salad, spanakopita, croissants, muffins, danishes, cupcakes, bagels.
