Several local restaurants are offering special prix fixe menus for New Year's Eve diners, but you'd better make your reservations soon.
Little Savannah in Forest Park is offering dishes such as braised Duroc pork cheek with honey-roasted butternut squash ravioli, seared Georgia Sturgeon with baby frisee and Sturgeon Caviar vinaigrette, roasted veal tenderloin and olives Provencal with butter-seared sweetbreads and blue corn cake, a cheese course, and blood orange crepes or devil's food cupcake for dessert. Satterfield's Restaurant in Cahaba Heights will feature dishes such as terrine of Foie Gras with local apples and candied walnuts, braised Duroc pork belly with sweet potato ravioli and blackeyed peas and collard greens, butter poached Maine lobster and Gulf shrimp with truffled "mac & cheese," hickory grilled prime beef filet with crispy bone marrow, and roasted pear cake with marscarpone mousse and fresh apple salad. At Veranda on Highland, you can choose from such delicacies as Maine lobster bisque with Coupique caviar chantilly, truffled Alabama jumbo lump crab meat "martini," double-cut Coloardo lamb chops with smoked crimini mushrooms and andouille-and-sweet-potato hash, iron-seared jumbo scallops with grilled green onion risotto, and praline cheesecake. Price is $80 per person, or $65 for seatings before 7 p.m.
At Hot and Hot Fish Club, the menu starts out with Hors d' oeuvres and Champagne, followed by dishes such as smoked grilled quail with winter baby vegetables and white barbecue sauce, lobster bisque with truffle flan, braised Fudge Farm pork belly with Chef's garden baby beets, wild mushroom risotto with roasted bone marrow, oven roasted duck breast and crispy confit with braised lentils and swiss chard, veal rib roast with baby vegetables and blue cheese butter, with chocolate hazelnut torte for dessert. Counting the Hors d' oevres and dessert, this is a five course meal, and it's $100 per person.
Standard Bistro in Mt. Laurel also starts off with an Hor d'oeuvre and a glass of bubbly, goes through three courses plus dessert. Some of the options include kobe beef steak tartare, lobster and shrimp bisque, crisp duck confit with winter bean "salad," hickory smoked rainbow trout, fresh Gulf fish meuniere, grilled beef filet with winter root vegetable gratin, and milk chocolate mocha decadance. Cost is $90 per person.
If your budget is a little lower, La Dama Italian Bistro is offering a special menu at its locations in Liberty Park and Trussville -- appetizer, entree and dessert for $27.99 per person. The menu includes dishes such as jumbo lump crab cake, beef carpaccio, lobster Alfredo, Angus beef tenderloin, and warm blackberry cobbler. The full menu and additional specials will also be offered.
Another option for the more budget-conscious is Silvertron Cafe in Forest Park, which has a New Year's Eve "tasting menu" for $19.95, with such choices as fried mushrooms with creamy dipping sauce, spinach and feta cheese dip, homemade chicken salad over fresh greens, the Silvertron Salad, chicken lasagna, Pasta Alla Marco, chicken tetrazzini, chocolate and espresso bread pudding.
